Vanilla panna cotta

A smooth and creamy dessert where the authentic flavor of the vanilla bean really comes into its own. Pannacotta is an Italian classic that is appreciated by many.

Ingredients

  • 5 dl whipping cream

  • 1 vanilla pod

  • 1 dl granulated sugar

  • 2 gelatin sheets

Instructions
  1. Prepare gelatin sheets : Place the gelatin sheets in cold water and let them soften for about 5 minutes.

  2. Prepare the vanilla : Cut the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with a knife. Place both the seeds and pod in a saucepan with the whipping cream.

  3. Heat the cream : Add the granulated sugar and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally, but make sure the cream does not boil.

  4. Dissolve gelatin : Remove the saucepan from the heat and fish out the vanilla bean. Squeeze out the gelatin leaves and add them to the hot cream. Stir until the gelatin leaves have completely melted.

  5. Pour into molds : Divide the panna cotta into serving molds or glasses. Let them cool to room temperature before covering them with plastic wrap and placing them in the refrigerator.

  6. Let set : Let the panna cotta set in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for best results.

  7. Serve : Remove the panna cotta from the refrigerator and decorate with fresh berries, fruit or chocolate flakes before serving.

Tip

  • For a more luxurious version, you can add a little white chocolate to the cream before it simmers.

  • If you want to avoid gelatin, you can use agar-agar as a vegetarian alternative (follow the package instructions).
