Homemade Vanilla Sugar
Homemade Vanilla Sugar
Make your own vanilla sugar at home for a natural and flavorful ingredient to use in baking and cooking. It's easy to make and a great way to reuse vanilla beans.
Ingredients
-
1 empty vanilla pod (after scraping out the seeds)
-
2 dl granulated sugar
Instructions
-
Dry the vanilla bean : If the vanilla bean is damp, you can let it dry at room temperature for a couple of hours or put it in an oven on low heat (about 50 °C) for a few minutes until it is completely dry.
-
Blend or grind : Cut the dry vanilla bean into smaller pieces and blend it together with the granulated sugar in a food processor or blender until the sugar is fine and the vanilla bean is finely ground.
-
Strain the sugar mixture : Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any larger pieces of vanilla bean that were not blended properly.
-
Store : Pour the finished vanilla sugar into an airtight jar and let it sit for at least a week before using. This gives the sugar time to absorb all the flavor from the vanilla.
-
Use : Use homemade vanilla sugar in your favorite recipes that call for vanilla or sugar, such as cakes, desserts or drinks.
Tip
-
If you want a more intense flavor, you can add more vanilla beans to the sugar.
-
Vanilla sugar can be kept fresh for several months if stored in a cool, dark place in an airtight container.
With this recipe you get an aromatic and flavorful vanilla sugar that will enhance the quality of your baked goods and desserts!
